The Silence after Applause is a unique partnership between Birmingham Royal Ballet, Canon, Hahnemühle and Canon Ambassador Clive Booth which looks at the unseen stories of performance. The project brings awareness of dancer’s well-being, supporting research on Relative Energy Deficiency in Dance (RED-D), led by BRB Clinical Director Nick Allen, a condition that significantly impacts the physical and mental health of dancers.
During one of Clive’s photographic sessions capturing images of dancers just after their performance of the Nutcracker, I was invited to capture behind the scenes stills of Clive and the dancers in action. Needless to say, I was in my element to get such extraordinary access to what the audience don’t see.
